“Culture Eats Strategy — Organizational Change without Pain”
presented by Faun deHenry, President and CEO, FMT Systems of Texas, Inc.
This famous quotation by Drucker has served as a warning for any organization that wanted or needed to change its culture. Drucker suggested working within an organization's existing culture rather than attempting to make radical changes. What can be done if the organization's culture must change? Are there only some features of the culture that are a problem? Do we target certain areas that will make the most impact on an analytic culture? Or are there degrees in which the current culture is blocking the way to improvement? This presentation discusses three situations in different organizations that needed to move toward an analytic culture to ensure the success of their BI initiatives. The discussion on changing to an analytic culture includes an examination of critical success factors (CSF's), tipping points, and potential obstacles.

OMG! Identifying and Refactoring Common SQL Performance Anti-patterns
presented by Jeff Jacobs
Most presentations on SQL performance assume that the query developer is highly experienced in SQL and Oracle. Also they focus on tracing and other techniques. Sadly, in today's world, knowledge of SQL and Oracle are not highly valued. Consequently many SQL performance problems are the result of inexperience, misguidance, "heard it/read it somewhere" and various sources of misinformation.
This presentation will address common "anti-patterns" in database design and SQL query writing that I've encountered over the years and how to fix them without tracing, changing init.ora parameters or using techniques that require DBA level privileges. This presentation will focus on techniques that are typically available to developers.
Jeff is an experienced, versatile information technology and business professional. His expertise lies in multiple fields of technology including, but not limited to; Oracle performance data architecture, database design and data modeling. Business & systems analysis
project, program and engineering management.
Jeff has authored books and presented at numerous regional and national conferences.
